What’s Biting Around Siesta Key This Week
Siesta Key - Sarasota, FL
Fishing around Siesta Key is heating up as we move into early summer. Inshore waters are seeing solid action with snook staging around mangrove points, docks, and passes, especially during early morning and late afternoon tides. Live pilchards and artificial jerk baits are both producing consistent strikes. The bite is best when the tide is moving, and the water clarity is clean.
Mangrove snapper have shown up in good numbers around structure and deeper grass flats. Most are averaging 12–15 inches, and they’re feeding well on shrimp and small whitebait. Meanwhile, redfish are scattered along the grass lines and oyster bars, with cut bait and soft plastics doing the trick on moving water.
Nearshore, the king mackerel and Spanish mackerel bite has picked up around bait schools in 20–40 feet. Look for birds diving and fish breaking the surface—trolling spoons or casting jigs into the fray is a great way to hook up. Anglers are also picking off cobia cruising the surface or hanging around channel markers.
With steady weather and rising water temps, this is a great time to fish Siesta Key. Whether you’re staying inshore or heading out just past the beach, the bite is strong across the board.
